Congenital aplasia of parathyroid glands and thymus.

چکیده
Congenital absence of the parathyroid glands may be associated with congenital absence of the thymus (Lobdell, 1959). This is not surprising as both structures arise together from the 3rd and 4th branchial pouches. In the same way, vascular anomalies of the 3rd and 4th branchial arteries are found to be associated with abnormalities of the thymus, including thymic aplasia (Cameron, 1965). A patient is described in whom thymic aplasia, absence of the parathyroid glands, and congenital heart disease were present. The interest of this case lies in the light this 'experiment of nature' may shed on the immunological systems of the body.

DiGeorge Syndrome Presenting as Hypocalcaemia-Induced Seizures in Adulthood
Introduction. DiGeorge syndrome is a developmental defect commonly caused by a microdeletion on the long arm of chromosome 22 or less frequently by a deletion of the short arm of chromosome 10. Case report. We report a case of a gentleman with mild dysmorphic features who presented with hypocalcaemia-induced seizures and an associated thyroid mass with a background of learning difficulties and ...
متن کاملCase Report: Two Patients with Partial DiGeorge Syndrome Presenting with Attention Disorder and Learning Difficulties
DiGeorge syndrome (DGS) has classically been characterized by the triad of clinical features including congenital cardiac defects, immune deficiencies secondary to aplasia or hypoplasia of the thymus, and hypocalcaemia due to small or absent parathyroid glands. The phenotypic features of these patients are much more variable and extensive than previously recognized. The acknowledgement of simil...

The 22q11.2 microdeletion syndrome is one of the common microdeletion syndromes seen among children with Congenital Heart Defects. Population based studies have shown the prevalence of 22q11.2 microdeletion syndrome range from 1 in 4000 to 1 in 6000 live births.1,2 Over 80% of children with 22q11.2 microdeletion syndrome have Congenital Heart Defects.1,3,4 Diagnosis of 22q11.2 microdeletion syn...

The thymus and parathyroid glands arise from a shared endodermal primordium in the third pharyngeal pouch (3rd pp). Thymus fate is specified in the ventral 3rd pp between E9.5 and E11, whereas parathyroid fate is specified in the dorsal domain. The molecular mechanisms that specify fate and regulate thymus and parathyroid development are not fully delineated. Previous reports suggested that Tbx...
متن کامل22q11 Deletion Syndrome with Vascular Anomalies
DiGeorge syndrome, also termed 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, represents a spectrum of disorders that include thymic aplasia/hypoplasia, parathyroid aplasia/hypoplasia, conotruncal vascular anomalies, and velocardiofacial (Shprintzen) syndrome. This case report describes a novel constellation of cardiovascular anomalies in a 31-year-old patient with 22q11.2 deletion confirmed by fluorescence in sit...
